Lesson learned- always, always, be prepared.

I hate when this happens.  Every once in awhile, I’ll see or overhear something so random and ridiculous that I spend the next day or so kicking myself for not always having a video camera at the ready so that I can share the ridiculous thing with the world (did I learn nothing but to “always be prepared” from my three tortuous years as a Girl Scout?).

When I overhear a ridiculous conversation, I usually try my best to accurately recreate it, and while it doesn’t capture the glory of being there in person, it generally gets the point across.  For example, I made BF laugh last night when I told him about overhearing a woman talking super loudly on her cell phone saying “Yeah, so I went to go vote today but it was closed- doesn’t that suck!!” Pause.  “But they kept saying on the News- ‘go vote’ ’go vote’, so I went.”  (my state was not holding our primary yesterday).

But it sucks when the ridiculous thing is something you see, because you know that no matter how precisely you describe the situation to someone else, you can never really make them see the  picture in your head that’s making you giggle like a crazy woman at the most inappropriate times (like, say, at the lunch meeting I just got out of).  I mean, I know I could never do justice to the image of the overweight, middle aged man I saw a couple weeks ago driving next to me down the highway on a tiny scooter…wearing a viking helmet.  But if I had a picture of him, you would totally get it.

(If you could squeeze these three together in your mind…)

So this just happened to me,  and instead of trying to paint the picture, I’m just going to tell you what I saw.

I was walking out of CVS and I saw a homeless* man slapping another guy, dressed in a business suit, across the face with a fist full of dollar bills.**

I wish you could have been there.

* I know the man is homeless because I see him all the time and he carries a sign that says “I’m homeless.”
** This was a playful slap…everyone involved was laughing.  Picture a scene from a movie where an English gentleman removes his glove and slaps someone across both sides of the face with it.  Crap, now I’ve gone and tried to describe it.  Like I said, I wish you had been there.

I wish I HAD been there – it sounds like a very funny scene. What’s really strange, though, is that I used to see a very fat man on a pink scooter riding around my neighborhood, too! Maybe he moved to your city, and purchased a viking helmet! (or perhaps really overweight men prefer pink scooters . . .)

I never, ever have my camera at those moments.
I now carry my camera in my purse at all times (no camera phone) just in case, which means that my purse is due to be stolen any time now.

A camera phone would be ideal, but those are beyond my technical capabilities (just like text messaging!).

A ha ha ha! You definitely don’t need Photoshop with those visuals!
